The animation received a standing ovation during Cannes marché du film last week participation and has been planned for a tour of the US, reportedly in Washington, Michigan, and California states, with subsequent screening plans elsewhere in the world.
The animation relates the history of pre-Islamic Arabian Peninsula and its southern ridges in Yemen, where a local Jewish ruler, Zu-Nuas, had allegedly burnt an entire Christian community to discourage them from practicing their faith. It makes parallels with Mel Gibson’s Passion of Christ, which addressed a similar theme of executing Christians and its prophet.
The Sacred List, also entitled in Anglophobe circles as The Return is produced and directed by Mohammad Amin Hamedani. It was dubbed by a dubbing group under Maryam Shirzad’s supervision. The animation had won the plate of honor for the Best Animation Award during 34th Fajr Film Festival earlier in February.
